Accommodating your building to suit a growing business
What do you do when you only have one shipping door? Cut another hole in the wall of course! That's exactly what we had to do for our client to increase their productivity, efficiency and overall functionality.

Below, you can see an open space for an additional loading dock door on the left (we handle these tasks more often than you'd think). On the right, you see a typical drive-up ramp to a 12' x 16' loading dock door. Although in good condition, this isn't the ideal situation for mid-sized to large transport trucks loading/unloading shipments.

Aside from adding in another door, our next solution was to install Cantilever Dock Levelers that extend outside the building wall, helping to prevent structure damage (especially until dock seals go in around the doors). As you can see below, after a pit was dug, the leveler was placed in position, ready for concrete to be poured to secure the unit.

The ramp also had to be removed to accommodate the new levelers, creating ease of access to the receiving area. It sure came along nicely with the second space for the new sectional door made below!

The existing door our customer had was also re-framed to match the new door we would be installing to avoid replacing it as it was in good working condition. On the left below, you see the new door, while on the right, re-framing begins!

Voila! Our client now has two easily accessible loading dock doors with dock levelers.

Conventional Dock Levelers are installed inside the building into a pit like the picture of the blue leveler to the left. An opening is cut and once the leveler is placed inside, concrete is poured around the unit to secure it.

Below, we have an example of an Edge of Dock Replacement in Toronto. These are typically installed on the exterior of a building for loading dock areas with limited space.

Before Replacement
Edge of Dock Levelers are quick and easy to operate. After loading/unloading is complete and the truck has backed away, the leveler actually returns back to it's stored position. Important elements of any dock leveler include dock bumpers and in this case, block risers to align the bumpers with the leveler. These are the black rectangles with 2 holes on either side of the leveler, used to protect the building structure from truck impacts.
